I have no problems seeing the special effects in the properties window but anytime i close the windows and any special effects have been displayed my toolset will stop responding.
it happens every time there have been special effects displayed through the properties window, even if just browsing through different creatures appearances.
I have no problems with items or creatures without these special effects.

I have attached my DxDiag as well as 2 screenshots.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue! As it stands, we are not currently able to replicate this internally. We're going to require some more information before we can proceed.

  • This happens every time, or just some/most of the time?
  • Is it just this creature's display causing it, or almost any you view?
  • Does it just happen with creatures, or with other items as well (e.g. animated placeables)?
  • Do you have environmental mapping enabled on creatures/items (and placeables), and if so does disabling it cure the issue?

You can check the settings under Tools--Options, on the General tab, from the top toolbar:

You can check the settings under Tools--Options, on the General tab, from the top toolbar:

• This happens every time a creature or item has added visual effects (maybe particle effects in particular) for example when an item or creature has a burning fire effect like when you add the "Visual Effect" property to an item, or if you add non-physical damage to a weapon.

• It is not just this creature, I think it includes all the elemental creatures, maybe be other too. but any creature that dont have these particle effects or whatever it is works without any problem.

• the main display window can have burning fires without any problem, attaching a screenshot:
!Burning Enviroment2.png!

but when editing the properties of an placeable that is burning the toolset will stop responding after i close that window (by either pressing ok or cancel).

• I have tried with and without the environmental mapping enabled, the issue still occurs.

I'm starting to believe this is an issue with AMD processors or Graphics cards, have you tried to reproduce this issue on such a PC?

I'm still having this problem, I have tried updating drivers and all kinds of stuff but i can never get it to work, this is getting quite frustrating since I'm one of the builders on the Salvation server and there are so many things that keeps crashing in the toolset.

how about an option to just turn these "particle effects" off?

and if you need any more information from me please ask.

Was it working before a specific patch?

Was it working before a specific patch?

no.

Hi, sorry for the huge delay in responses. I've tested this on two different AMD machines (one with AMD CPU & GPU, one with Intel CPU/AMD GPU) and still cannot reproduce this. The Intel machine also has integrated AMD graphics. It doesn't appear to be AMD-related, at least from my observations. Are you still seeing and having this problem?

Yes, I am still having this problem, i have tried updating my drivers and tried both with and without the environment mapping again.

This is the message I get from Windows 7:

I can only speculate but maybe the issue is something with the memory/video memory being freed up or something when closing the window? what actually happens internally when the "secondary window" is closed? and even if no changes were made? (toolset stops responding even if i don't make any changes to the item/creature)

what is internally different with an item/creature that have special effects like burning etc. from an item/creature that don't?

if the item/creature with the special effects have some extra step when closing the window, that's probably where the problem lies.

Hi, thanks for writing back, and sorry for the time lapse. Have you tried the new toolset beta recently available on the forums, and if so are you still having problems? Internally the only difference between the "on-fire" etc creatures is that they use particle emitters. Looking at your DXDiag, I see you're using an older Radeon HD series, which AFAIK is only supported with legacy drivers. This could be a driver issue, and as they're not making new versions it could be much more difficult, perhaps impossible, for us to fix from our end. Always a chance though, so please let us know where you stand on this problem. Thanks again, we look forward to hearing back from you!

Hi, thanks again for taking the time to report. Due to a long period of inactivity, I'm going to close down this ticket. Perhaps you've upgraded your graphics since this report?

If the issue still persists, please feel free to file another report here at https://support.baldursgate.com along with any updated information you can provide, and we'll be happy to take another look. Again, if it's the graphics in question I'm not sure if we can actually assist or not.
